Tips to keep your piano performing to its full potential.
The Correct Location
Your piano feels most comfortable under the same conditions as you do. As a rule, it should not:
- be placed directly at or under windows,
- be subjected to direct sunlight,
- be placed directly in front of a radiator or above a heating duct,
- be placed directly above or in front of an air duct.
The right condtions helps:
- improves the tuning stability,
- prevents negative influences on the playability,
- minimizes changes in the soundboard crown,
- is easy on the wooden components of the sound-producing portion,
- increases the life expectancy of your piano.
Airing the Rooms
Normal airing of the rooms will not result in damage. With outside temperatures below the freezing point or in very humid weather, excessive airing should be avoided. A constant draft will always result in damage. The stronger the draft and the longer the duration, the greater the damage if the air is too dry, humid or exerts a lasting influence on fluctuations in the room climate, the piano should be placed in the vicinity of a damp or cold outer wall.Room Temperature
The ideal room-temperature range is between 20° and 24° C. / 68° and 75° F. Room temperatures considerably higher or lower will not result in damage as long as the relative humidity remains within the 40%-60% range. Avoid room temperatures below 10° C. / 50° F. Temperatures below the freezing point will result in damage. Sudden changes in temperature can damage the components of your piano. |
